Microsoft Surface Laptop has not had a good start. Users are reporting cracks on the screen without any apparent reason.
Several users reported the problem on Reddit:
#1 My Surface Laptop 3 Screen Cracked Too. It’s never been dropped or manhandled, it was just there one day when I opened the lid.
#2 Another said: I have purchased the HEX sleeves for basically all of them – the Surface Laptop 3 is stored in a padded backpack in the laptop pocket in the case. I am meticulous about my devices, I use skins, etc. I pull out the laptop this morning and the screen has cracks. In 3 places. It hasn’t been dropped, there are no dents, no signs of physical damage, not a single scratch.
At first, Microsoft tried to say the problem was not related to the design of the screen or the laptop.
But something changed.
On the 8th of May 2020 Microsoft also confirmed that they have received complaints from customers and published the following statement:
“We have investigated claims of screen cracking on Surface Laptop 3 and have determined that, in a very small percentage of cases, a hard foreign particle may cause a hairline fracture in the glass that may seem to appear unexpectedly or without visible cause.
If you believe your Surface Laptop 3 is experiencing this issue, you are encouraged to contact our Microsoft Support to initiate a repair free of charge during the warranty period of the device.
If you have previously paid Microsoft for a Surface Laptop 3 repair that you believe experienced this issue, please contact Microsoft Support to learn about reimbursement.”
The statement from Microsoft suggests that they will be covering the full costs of the laptop screen repair until the warranty ends.
